Graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in 1887, and subsequently pursued graduate work there in philosophy, earning a Ph.D. in 1891; taught at Penn from around 1892, becoming a full professor in 1903; in 1907 named the Adam Seybert Professor of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy, a position he held until his death. Archer-Hind, R. D. (Richard Dacre), 1849-1910

Richard Dacre Archer-Hind was born into an ancient Northumbrian family. He was educated at Cambridge, and lectured there for many years. An excellent scholar and renowned classicist, he wrote or edited numerous monographs, perhaps most significantly on Plato. He was also a strong supporter of women's education.
